The house system at International School Laren (ISL) is a fundamental structure for cultivating our inclusive, international community.

The houses ensure that our highest priority—making every student feel immediately at home—is met.

Our five houses are named after powerful constellations that also represent mythical creatures: Cygnus, Draco, Hydra, Pegasus, and Phoenix. This system is key to fostering immediate belonging and support

To guarantee that new students integrate quickly and make friends, each house comprises representatives of every class and year level, ensuring connections across the entire student body.

Furthermore, the system promotes essential student growth attributes such as leadership, as each house has designated captains and several ambassadors.

The core of the system is a year-long friendly competition that reinforces school spirit and active participation. Points are allocated for a wide variety of activities, designed to integrate different facets of student development (such as academic achievement, community engagement, or physical tournaments) which empowers students toward their full potential.

This holistic approach is designed to strengthen the entire school community, connecting students, teachers, and families: parents and teachers are sometimes asked to participate in an activity where they can gain points for the houses. This inclusive engagement helps transform our values into action, promoting the development of responsible global citizens.

We emphasize cheering each other on throughout the year. At the conclusion of the academic year, the winning house earns a spectacular outing, celebrating their collective achievement, before the counting process begins anew.
