“We started our day excited about the rare warm and sunny weather typically not seen in the Netherlands at this time. We proceeded to walk to the Anne Frank museum where students learned about the horror of unchecked intolerance and our country’s history. The museum curator was so excited to see that our students came from the famous “berg en sticking” school as she explained the connection of Laren to World War 2. From there we walked to the Muesuk of Resistance as students enjoyed the sunshine and friendships. At this museum we learned again about the harmful effects of prejudice and how people resisted in many ways against it during world war 2. Currently in our unit we are ending our progress on world war 1 and the connections of these museums to the narratives of growing nationalism and resentment in world war 1 connected well as students showed great excitement and engagement in their learning. In our museum visits the curators were so impressed with the students’ engagement and enthusiasm, so much so that Ms. Lima and I could count all the characteristics of the in profile and relate them to our student.
