The IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) is a five year programme (for grades 6 to 10, ages 11 to 16) that prepares students for the IB Diploma Programme.
The International School Laren’s uniqueness lies in its ability to offer smaller class sizes, so that teachers may provide students with optimal attention.

The MYP provides a framework of learning that encourages students to become creative, critical and reflective thinkers. It fosters the development of life skills such as communication, intercultural understanding and global engagement—essential qualities for young people who are becoming global leaders.

At the end of grade 10, students will complete their personal project and the IB MYP certificate. Upon successful completion of grade 10, students can continue to the IB Diploma Programme.

The MYP Philosophy

Each subject emphasises the MYP's fundamental principles to student learning which are:

  • Holistic learning - accentuating the interrelatedness of one subject to another while, at the same time, thoroughly studying each subject discretely.
  • Intercultural awareness - considering and understanding multiple perspectives in a bid to foster tolerance, respect and empathy.
  • Communication - developing inquiry and understanding, reflection and expression through all subjects. This is represented in the form of ICT and visual and performing arts as well as through language communication.

At the end of the Middle Years Programme, students can apply for entrance to the IB Diploma Programme.
